Galesville Founders Day to be celebrated virtually

Galesville is celebrating Founders Day this year with a virtual event.

Those wishing to take part Saturday, June 20, can watch videos from Old Main, the A.A. Arnold House and groups who were scheduled to perform. View photos and read historical information about Galesville’s Founders and the city.

Two activities that will be held are the farmers market from 8 a.m. to noon and a drive-through chicken-Q prepared by the Galesville Fire Department. Chicken dinners will be served from 11 a.m. until they are gone.

The A.A. Arnold House / East Side Farm will post a tour of the house hosted by Chris Otzelberger. The tour will allow viewers to learn more about one of Galesville’s movers and shakers and the beautiful home they built in 1874.

The Old Main video production will feature George Gale in an enactment with his friends and mother at age 16 when he may have first envisioned a place called Galesville.

The parts are played by Andrew Fox, narrator; Spencer Sveen as George Gale; and Spencer Solberg and Isaiah Higgins as friends.  Mother is played by Diane Thatcher.  Dr. Pamela Preston Kelly will play period music on the Steinway Grand piano.

Board president, Alex Wegner will present current activities at Old Main. The Unaccompanied Minors will perform a selection of barbershop music. The program will close with a prayer and taps at Judge George Gale’s grave site. The scout troop eagle projects of Spencer Sveen and Clayton Solberg at Old Main will also be noted. The video may also be viewed at www.oldmain.org.

Other posts will feature the Second Minnesota Battery of Light Artillery Reenactors based in Red Wing, Minn. and the 1st Brigade Band from Whitewater. Both groups will be joining the celebration in 2021.

Join the celebration on Facebook at Galesville Area Chamber of Commerce - Events for our virtual event. New posts will be added throughout the day.
