DeVere O. Dahl

DeVere O’Neil Dahl, 81, of Blair, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at Grand View Care Center in Blair.

DeVere was born March 16, 1939, in French Creek to Herschel and Merle (Stenberg) Dahl. DeVere graduated from Blair High School in 1957. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army Reserves for six months. On March 11, 1961, DeVere married Erva Jo Peterson at Zion Lutheran Church in Blair.

DeVere worked in the carpentry business and, in 1978, started a partnership, forming Dahl-Frederixon Construction with his friend, Dwight Frederixon. He retired from the business in December 2000. DeVere was a member of the Blair Lutheran Church, served on the Blair-Preston Fire Department for many years and was also a member of the Blair Sportsmen’s Club. In 1958, DeVere was the raw egg eating champion for Blair’s Egg Festival. DeVere was also named the Blair Cheese Festival Parade Marshal in 2004, and the Blair Cheese Festival Beer Meister in 2015.

Together, DeVere and Erva Jo enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. They attended many of their grandchildrens’ sporting events. DeVere was a life-long Dodgers fan and loved going to and watching baseball games.

DeVere is survived by his wife of 59 years, Erva Jo; daughters: DeAnn (Brian) Brost, Wendy (Vern) Tranberg, Cynthia (Dennis) Stephenson and Gwen (Aaron) Kidd; grandchildren: Nathan (Hannah) Dahl, Kyle Tranberg, Jonathan (Tiffany) Graff, Andrew (Taija) Graff, Lauren, Leah and Benjamin Kidd; great-grandchildren: Colby & Tenley Dahl, Addelynn, Tucker, Piper and Barrett Graff. DeVere is also survived by his mother, Merle Dahl; a sister, Cheryl Bluske; and many nieces and nephews.

DeVere was preceded in death by his father, Herschel Dahl; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alf and Clara Peterson; and a brother-in-law, Monte Bluske.

A graveside service was held Monday, May 4, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blair. Vicar Paul Sannerud officiated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The family wants to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the Gundersen Lutheran Dialysis Unit for the excellent care given to DeVere for the past nine years and also to Grand View Care Center for caring for him for the past year.
