Credit union finances Arcadia crossing sign

An electronic school crossing sign, paid for entirely by a donation from the Arcadia Credit Union, was installed last week in front of Arcadia’s Elementary School.

The safety of students crossing Main Street from the school has been a concern by council members for a while.

“The Arcadia Credit Union saw an opportunity to assist the city of Arcadia, the Arcadia Police Department and the Arcadia School District to improve student and pedestrian safety,” said Michelle Roesler, president and CEO of the credit union. The credit union donated the entire cost of $7,227.90 for the new crossing signal.

The location of the solar-powered crossing alert on Main Street near St. Joseph’s Avenue was chosen because of its proximity to the elementary school, said Diana Anderson, Arcadia police chief. About 700 children attend the elementary school.

The new signal was installed last Thursday by staff from the Arcadia street department and electric utility.
