Letter to the Editor
Letters must be submitted by noon Monday, the week of publication.
The Trempealeau County Times welcomes letters to the editor from our readers, but does place certain restrictions on such correspondence.
Letters are limited to 500 words or less. In order to keep this forum open to readers of this publication, letters can only be accepted from Times subscribers, and current and former residents of Trempealeau County and those portions of Buffalo and Jackson counties that lie within our core coverage area, the Arcadia, Blair-Taylor, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Independence and Whitehall school districts.
There is a limit of one letter per month per writer. Thank you notes will not be accepted as letters to the editor. We reserve the right to refuse any letter, and to edit all letters for reasons of clarity and brevity, and to correct grammar and punctuation. We want your opinions, even when we don’t agree with them. But this isn’t the Internet, so you can’t just say anything you want. Try to base your letters on reason and fact. We will not publish claims that are demonstrably false.
Because of the potential volume of correspondence during an election season, letters endorsing candidates for elected office cannot be accepted. We also will not accept letters from the candidates themselves. Also, in order to allow for responses to previous letters to the editor, no letters on campaign- or election-related matters will be published the week before an election.
We require that each letter include the name of the writer, and an address, phone number, email address or other means of confirming his or her identity. In certain instances, if personal safety could be affected by publication, the writer’s name may be withheld upon request. In most cases, however, letters will not run unsigned.
