‘Recycling in the Park’ Saturday in Arcadia

Recycling in the Park with how-to lessons in recycling and composting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the soccer field in Schank Park in Arcadia.

Coffee and donuts will be offered at the free, one-hour event that is open to Arcadia students, their parents and other county residents. 

Door prizes include outdoor dual-chamber composting barrels valued at $150 and $115, three kitchen counter compost containers, a rain barrel, recycling bags from the city of Arcadia and walking sticks from Doc Dettloff.

Saturday’s event comes after a presentation Sept. 25 to 500 kindergarteners through fifth graders by recycling advocates Carmen Lisowski and Jan Dworschak. The presentation offered the students experience identifying recyclable material and the importance of recycling. Students also watched a video promoting recycling. Dworschak said Saturday’s presentation will include information on the many materials that can be recycled, including empty medicine bottles, cartons cardboard, newspapers, magazines, num-ber 1 plastic bottles, milk and kefir bottles, number two plastic containers, glass bottles, aluminum pans and cans, metal cans and tin cans. She said clean white Styrofoam can be recycled at Styrene Manufacturing on Blaschko Avenue and clothes at thrift stores locally at locations in La Crosse, Winona and Eau Claire
