Another COVID-19 death reported as cases skyrocket
Another Trempealeau County resident died from COVID-19 as the number of new cases skyrocketed to near record levels.
The death was reported last week Monday by the Trempealeau County Health Department. No further information about the subject was provided. It is the 53rd person to die from the disease since the start of the pandemic in the spring of 2020 and the fourth within the last five weeks.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 364 new cases in Trempealeau County last week, the highest number reported since November of 2020 when a record of 460 cases were reported. It is also the first time more than 200 cases have been reported since that time as the high for 2021 was 195 new cases.
The DHS reported there have been 121 new cases reported amongst residents of the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District within the last seven days. Osseo-Fairchild residents have reported 66 followed by Whitehall, 52; Arcadia and Eleva-Strum, 51; Independence, 42 and Blair-Taylor, 40.
