Applications begin this week for Habitat house
County residents may begin applying Thursday to be considered for an affordable custom-build home in Arcadia and sign up to attend informational meetings about the process Oct. 28 and 30.
Residents may begin the application process and register to attend one of the Habitat for Humanity informational meetings at www.habitatlacrosse.org/how-to-apply. The information meetings will be held at the Ashley Community Room in the Wanek Center in Arcadia at 5:30 p.m. Oct.28 and 10 a.m. Oct. 30.
Habitat Executive Director Kahya Fox said the home will be designed to meet the needs of the selected homeowner.
The meetings will cover the location of the home on Wilson Street in Arcadia, who is eligible to apply and how to apply. The applicant who is selected will have a home designed for their needs with an interest-free mortgage and payments no more than 30 percent of income.
The application process will end Nov. 19. One applicant is expected to be selected for the home by the end of the year.
Among the requirements to be considered for the home are the need for better housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, willingness to volunteer with Habitat and lower income. The home should be ready for occupants by the end of next summer
