Arcadia approves seeking utility loan
The Arcadia council approved the city’s water and sewer utilities applying for a low-interest state loan to help finance the replacement of infrastructure beneath a stretch of Main Street.
The application for the state’s Safe Drinking Water Loan Program, approved by the council last Wednesday, is for up to $2 million. The city has also applied for a Community Development Block Grant of $1 million. City engineers estimated the project to replace water, storm and sanitary sewer lines from Washington to Jackson would cost roughly $3.5 million.
The city hopes to be able to complete the utility work and restore the street before the state resurfaces the length of Highway 95 through Arcadia. If the city secures funding, the utility work is expected to be done in 2025 with the state resurfacing planned for 2026.
