A win over Cumberland and four matches in one day was a busy way to start the 2022 season for Arcadia High School’s volleyball team last week.

The Raiders finished the tournament in Onalaska 1-4, falling to Baldwin-Woodville in the final set of an opening match before earning their first win of the year 2-1 over Cumberland.

Arcadia was slated to open Coulee Conference play by hosting Black River Falls on Tuesday before Luther visits on Thursday. Both games are at 7 p.m.

Baldwin-Woodville’s opening set saw the Raiders fall to a five-point deficit late before they came storming back to grab a 23-21 lead. The Raiders finished off the opening set behind strong serving from Samantha Berg, winning 25-22.

Cumberland again started strong in the second frame of the opening match, grabbing a 10-2 lead before the Raiders again stormed back to make it a game. The Raiders fought back to tie the game at 22 before eventually dropping the match in three sets.

La Crosse Central, Sparta and Bangor each took care of the Raiders in two sets to close the event. Statistics and plays from the matches were not recorded, coach Andrea Izdepski told the Times.
