Arcadia pool manager: patrons, lap swimmers getting along

While Arcadia officials said they had to eliminate early-morning lap swims at the city pool because of a lifeguard shortage, the city’s pool manager said lap swimmers and other patrons seem to be comfortably sharing the pool at noon and 6 p.m.

One day “at noon there were seven lap swimmers and about 90 kids,” said Brett Thill, manager of the city’s parks and pool, at last Wednesday council meeting. “Everything seemed to work out fine.”

Several city residents had lobbied for a continuation of lap swimming at 6:30 a.m., but city officials said they did not have enough lifeguards to cover that time. 

“The kids are being respectful of the lap swimmer,” Thill said. He also shared with the council articles describing the lifeguard shortage as a nationwide problem.

 The council also authorized the final plat for the 81-unit El Dorado multi-family development project on the city’s east side. Construction on the project began over the winter and some units are already occupied. The council also split the city’s banking business between Waumandee State Bank and First National Bank.
