Arcadia suggests park site for special event

The Arcadia city council said no to an event proposed by a city bar owner, suggesting Memorial Park would be a safer location.

El Texano Restaurant owner Juan Bacilio Vaca had requested a permit for his establishment on Blaschko Avenue for May 4, 5 and 6. His plan included renting a tent and allowing attendees to park across Highway 93. With attendance possibly reaching 1,000, council members felt the arrangement could be unsafe, said Mayor Kevin Mayzek.

“We suggested he try to use the pavilion in the park,” Mayzek said of the council’s decision last Wednesday. “There’s parking nearby and it’s easier to make secure.”

The council approved hiring staff for the city swimming pool, with all lifeguards with more than one year of experience getting $15 an hour and renewed a lease arrangement with the school district for use of the pool $12,150.

City operations director Rollie Conrad will provide recommendations for repairs to the council at a future meeting.
