Augusta boys, C-FC girls win DC meet
The Augusta boys track and field team and Cochrane-Fountain City girls emerged as the best in the Dairyland Conference as both won the conference championship meet hosted by Independence/Gilmanton last Thursday.
The Blair-Taylor girls were the best amongst area teams, taking second while the Whitehall girls team was fourth and I/G took ninth. The Whitehall boys finished third while B-T was fifth and I/G took eighth.
Paige Kelly led the B-T girls, winning the 300 hurdles while also running on the second-place 1600 relay team and taking third in the 100 and the discus. She was joined on the relay time by Ella Halverson, Sara Steffenson and Mckenzie Brandenburg.
Faith Olson added a second-place finish for the Wildcats in the high jump and Josie Waldera was third in the shot put.
Avery Sonsalla was second for Whitehall in the triple jump while taking third in the 400. Alexis Correa was third in both the long and triple jumps as was the 3200 relay team of Olivia Killian, Norah Youngbauer, Trinity Aasen and Haili Sluga.
Gracie Rombalski took second for the I/G girls in the 3200 while Kia Back was third in the 1600 and Alanna Severson took third in the pole vault.
Kevin Carroll won the 800 for the Whitehall boys while also taking second din the 1600 and running on the second-place 1600 relay team.
Ben Mohan ran on the first-place 3200 relay team and took first in the high jump, while adding a second-place finish in the 1600 relay. Colton Pank ran on the 3200 relay and was second in the triple jump. Jonathan Thorn ran on both the 3200 and 1600 teams and was third in the 400. Payton Thompson was also on both the 3200 and 1600 relay teams and Cayden Johnston was the other runner on the 1600 team.
Ben Pyka took second in the long jump and third in the 100 for the I/G boys. Kevin Halvorson added a third in the pole vault.
Delorean Peterson was second in the 3200 and third in the 1600 for the B-T boys team.
DaVonne Turner was on the second-place 400 relay team while taking third in the 200 and the long jump.
Evan Nehring, Caden Kruse and Riley McAdams were on the 400 team as well as the third-place 800 relay team, the other runner on the 800 team was Grason Armitage. Kruse was also third in the high jump.
The teams will all compete in a meet in Whitehall on Thursday, the final tune-up before Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association competition begins Monday. All three area teams will compete in the Division Three Mondovi regional.
