B-T seventh, Arcadia 13th at Northern Badger Classic
The Blair-Taylor wrestling team finished seventh in Division Three, while Arcadia was 13th in Division Two of the Northern Badger Classic in River Falls last Wednesday and Thursday.
B-T had just four wrestlers compete, but two placed as they scored 37 points, in a division won by Glenwood City. Arcadia also had two wrestlers place as they scored 51 points with Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal winning Division Two. Amery won the Division One title as there were 41 teams competing across three divisions.
The Wildcats hosted De Soto for a nonconference dual on Tuesday of this week. The Raiders hosts the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro co-op for a Coulee Conference dual on Thursday and will wrestle at Osseo-Fairchild on Saturday.
Northern Badger Classic
Jackson Shramek took sixth at 170 pounds for Blair-Taylor, the best finish amongst the area wrestlers.
Shramek opened the tournament with two wins, including a 5-4 win over Dane Luchterhand of N-G-L. He was pinned by weight class champion Devin Wasley of St. Croix Central — who has a 19-0 record on the season — in the quarterfinal round.
Shramek rebounded with two decisions, with score of 6-1 and 4-1, to get to the fifth-place match. He struggled, there, however, he was pinned by Dawson Webster of Cadott.
Bryan Rogstad (182) won three matches in the tournament as he finished 12th. He opened with a pin and then was pinned in his second match. He came back with two more pins, but lost his last three matches.
Gunar Koxlien (138) and Ryan Flynn (145) both competed for B-T, but did not place.
Jack Ziegeweid (220) finished ninth for Arcadia.
Ziegeweid split his first two matches, both ending with pins, before registering two straight pins, the second came late in the second period to beat Kaleb Palmer of St. Croix Falls. Ziegeweid lost his next match, but finished with two wins.
Miguel Sepulveda (195) finished 11th for Arcadia. He split his first two matches before winning two straight. He then lost two straight before winning the 11th-place match in overtime.
Iva Aguilar (120), Hunter Fitzpatrick (132), Jose Monroy (138), Cruz Patzner (152), Gery Lopez (160) and Martin Aguilar (182) all competed for Arcadia, but did not place.
