Break-in reported at Independence tavern

The Independence Police Department is investigating a number of break-ins reported in the city last week.

East End Bar and Grill, located at 23631 Washington St., posted on social media that two people broke into the business at about 4 a.m.  Friday morning. Security footage showed two people attempting to enter the tavern at about 4 a.m. and showed them inside the establishment, behind the bar, at 4:18 a.m. The author of the post reported they have more than 30 minutes of footage. 

The post said the two people who broke in didn’t “get far into the bar” before the alarm system sounded. It was also reported in the comments that the only damage was to a window screen. 

On the social media post, other city residents commented that they had also experienced — or knew of — other break-ins in the city. 

A member of the Independence Police Department said on Monday morning that the department could not yet comment on the case or if the reported break-ins were connected because they are under investigation.
