County communities to celebrate Fourth of July

Three county communities will be holding annual Fourth of July celebrations this weekend.

Two of the celebrations were held at least partially last year as the Lions Clubs from Galesville and Pleasantville, were able to hold their celebrations despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Fireworks over Blair returns after missing last year.

It wouldn’t be the Fourth of July without softball in Pleasantville. The 52nd annual tournament begins on Friday, a day in which a fireworks show is scheduled for 10 p.m. There will be eight teams playing in the double-elimination tournament with games scheduled to begin 6 p.m. and played throughout Saturday. The championship game is slated for 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Charcoaled chicken, bratwursts and hot dogs will be served along with refreshments each day. A pie and ice cream social will be held at noon on Sunday at the Town Hall. A worship service is also held as part of the celebration with a prelude at 10 a.m. and the service itself at 10:30 at Elk Creek Lutheran Church.

The Pleasantville Citizen of the Year award will be presented at 11:30 a.m.

The 22nd annual Fireworks over Blair will be held on its typical July 3 date at Riverside Memorial Park. The explosives launched over Lake Henry begin at 10 p.m., but the fun begins sooner. Food — chicken, brat and hot dog dinners — will be served from 5 to 9 p.m., along with assorted beverages. Music will begin at 7 p.m. with a DJ playing until 9 before Jimmy Herman plays from 9 to 10 p.m. and after the fireworks show.

There will also be a raffle and family-friendly activities at Riverside Memorial Park. Attendees are asked to purchase buttons for $5 with proceeds going to next year’s fireworks.

The Galesville celebration will be held completely on the holiday itself in the city’s downtown square.

The celebration begins with a car show beginning at 8 a.m. A horseshoe tournament will be held at noon in Triangle Park. There will be music by LaRose from 2 to 5:50 p.m. and Me and Rosie B from 6:45 to 9:45.

The concession stand opens at 11 a.m. and will stay open until 10 p.m.

Miss Galesville will be crowned at 6 p.m. with Fireworks shot off at 10 p.m.

In Buffalo County, a fireworks show will be held at 10 p.m. in Waumandee. The show is sponsored by the Waumandee State Bank and will include Waumandee Little League players serving hot dogs, cheese curds and beverages along with ice cream served by the Buffalo County Dairy Princesses.
