County fair returns with familiar events

The Trempealeau County Fair returns this week with a lineup that will help spectators enjoy the event just as they have in past years.

Technically, the fair began last Saturday with the judging of the drawing and painting exhibits and dog obedience judging on Sunday. Most of the judging and events that draw spectators don’t begin until Thursday when many of crowd favorites return.

While judging of several events will happen early on Thursday, the fair’s opening ceremony begins in the co-op pavilion at 6 p.m. That’s when the 4-H key awards will be presented and the 2021 Fairest of the Fair will be crowned.

Also returning this year will be the carnival, which opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, again at noon on Friday and Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The cost is $10 for unlimited rides.

Judging begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Music will be played throughout the weekend. The Rhythm Playboys play at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Troubleshooter will appear at 6 p.m. on Friday, Hillbilly Fever plays at 2 p.m. Saturday and The Real Beal’s One Man Band is scheduled to play throughout the weekend.

The Magic of Jim Mitchell will be on display several times throughout the weekend, including 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The truck and tractor pull returns at 7 p.m. on Friday along with the demolition derby at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Wisconsin Fairest of the Fair, Cayley Vande Berg, will make an appearance at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
