Crash injures one, closes road

State Road 121 in the town of Lincoln was closed for nearly 40 minutes after a car rear-ended a pickup truck Monday evening, according to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department.

A release sent by the sheriff’s department said a Dodge truck driven by Brett Hays, 32, of Whitehall was stopped, waiting to turn left into a driveway at W21011 State Road 121 before it was struck from behind by a Chevrolet sedan, driven by Preston Martin, 19 of Whitehall. The release said Martin “looked away from the road for a moment and when he looked back up he saw the stopped truck and was unable to stop in time.”

Hays was transferred via ambulance to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries, while Martin said he was not injured.

The report said both vehicles had heavy damage. Due to debris and road blockage, both lanes of State Road 121 were closed for 40 minutes.

Inattentive driving is believed to be a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s department reported.

The Whitehall Fire Department, Tri-County Ambulance and Independence Police Department assisted with the crash.
