Galesville bridge rehab set to begin

The rehabilitation of the Wisconsin 54/93 bridge over Beaver Creek in the town of Gale was scheduled to begin on Monday to start road construction season in Trempealeau County.

A press release sent by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation last week said that Governor Tony Evers signed a $1.67 million contract with prime contractor Kraemer North America of Plain for the project, which is west of Galesville.

Portions of the bridge are showing signs of deterioration. To address this, WisDOT is planning to:

• Replace the deck and some girders.

• Replace the asphalt approach slabs on both sides of the bridge.

• Replace guardrail.

During construction, the structure will remain open to a single lane of traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.

The Trempealeau County Highway Department last week published its 2022 road construction map.

Work scheduled for this summer includes the reconstruction of I-94 near Osseo, a two-year project. The four-mile long County Highway M, in the southern portion of the county between Galesville and Trempealeau, is also scheduled for reconstruction this summer.

The department plans to chipseal various stretches of road throughout the county, including 9.3 miles on Highway 53 between Beach Corners and Galesville.

Other roads scheduled for chipseal work include portions of County A, County D, County Q, County K and County E. Roads slated for overlay work include County BB and County XX. Roads slated for pulverize overlay include County O and County W.
