Galesville council abates rent for daycare in city building

Little Scholars Daycare in Galesville will have the burden of paying rent for its space removed for the next three months.

The Galesville city council last Thursday voted to abate rent from the daycare, which is run by Christine Vehrenkamp at the city owned building at W20608 McKeeth Drive, according to state documents on licensed child care centers.

The decision to abate rent was approved by a unanimous 6-0 vote after the council returned from closed session discussions on Thursday.

Little Scholars has rented the building since 2020, Clerk Jennifer Hess said.

Vehrenkamp leases the building on a monthly basis and could terminate the lease at the end of January.

The council agreed to extend the lease until April 30 rent free with little discussion after they returned from closed session on Thursday.

Little Scholars is one of 16 licensed childcare centers in the county.
