Galesville garage burns on NYE

A two-car garage burned down on New Year’s Eve, but firefighters were able to limit the damage.

According to information released by the Galesville Area Fire Department, a fire was reported at a residence located on McKeeth Drive at approximately 4:32 p.m. on Sunday. The local department arrived on scene nine minutes after the call, finding the garage fully engulfed. 

Firefighters worked to prevent the spread of the fire into the residence. While the garage was a complete loss, the release said there was just minor to moderate damage to the residence itself.

Fire departments from Trempealeau, Ettrick and Holmen assisted the Galesville department at the scene. Also assisting was the Galesville-Ettrick First Responders, JB Excavating, Riverland Energy, the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department and the town of Gale. Galesville fire units cleared the scene at 7:46 p.m. 

The Red Cross assisted the family following the blaze. 

The cause of the fire was still under investigation as of early this week.
