Galesville man dies in Lake Marinuka incident

A 47-year-old Galesville man is dead after drowning in Lake Marinuka last Tuesday.
Authorities responded to the East side of Lake Marinuka just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday after a resident called to report that a suspicious man was standing on the dock in their backyard.
Sergeant Travis McDonah of the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office told reporters at the scene on Tuesday that he made contact with the man on a dock, who was in a “mental health crisis.”
A name for the man will not be released by authorities.
McDonah spoke to the man in person, but he did not want to talk to police. Shortly after the conversation, the man jumped into the lake and began swimming to the middle of the water, where he eventually submerged.
McDonah immediately called for backup when the man entered the water, he said, and the body was recovered a few hours later.
Multiple area agencies assisted at the scene, including the Galesville Fire Department, La Crosse Fire Department, Winona County Dive Rescue and first responders.
The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office led the response.
