Health department reports third confirmed COVID-19 case

No plans for community test sites

Less than a week after the second positive COVID-19 test in Trempealeau County, the third person has tested positive, according to the Trempealeau County Health Department.

Health officer Barb Barczak sent a release confirming the third case of COVID-19 in Trempealeau County on Wednesday, six days after the second confirmed case. The health department’s release did not say if the two cases were related. The first came on April 1 with the patient having since recovered. That test was determined to be community spread.

The health department has stated they state and federal laws prevent them from releasing any more information about the people who tested positive for COVID-19 and where they live or work.

While Buffalo and Pepin counties are partnering to host a community COVID-19 specimen collection site in Alma on May 1, Barczak said no plans for such a site are in place for Trempealeau County yet.

Buffalo and Pepin county residents five years of age or older with symptoms of fever, cough, loss of taste/smell, shortness of breath, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, diarrhea, vomiting or nausea, chills, shaking with chills, or muscle aches are eligible for nasal swab testing. High risk individuals (65 years of age or older, under 65 with underlying medical conditions, or any immunocompromised individual) without symptoms will also be tested.

Testing through the collection site will be free of cost.
