Indees rock Cardinals for first softball win

The Independence/Gilmanton softball team had already shown it could put up numbers offensively, but last Tuesday was the first time it held its opponent down.

The Indees scored nine runs in the first two innings, then broke the game wide open with seven in the fifth as they won 19-4 in five innings. The Indees scored 16 runs combined in its first two games, but allowed 25 as they began the season 0-2.

If the weather cooperates, the season will pick up from here. The Indees were scheduled to play at Cochrane-Fountain City on Monday and at home against Melrose-Mindoro on Tuesday of this week. They’ll head to Pepin on Thursday before hosting Augusta for a doubleheader on Friday. 

Pepin/Alma comes to Independence this coming Monday before a doubleheader at Blair-Taylor on Tuesday a game at Eau Claire Immanuel on Thursday and a home game against C-FC next Friday.

The Indees scored the first nine runs then didn’t look back in a lopsided win.

I/G scored two runs in the first inning before breaking out with seven in the second.

Aubrie Pronschinske brought two runs home with a triple then scored herself on a passed ball. Amiah Ives and Adison Pronschinske added RBI singles as the Indees went ahead 9-0.

The Cardinals scored two in the bottom of the second, but the Indees got both back on an error in the top of the third. 

Leah Sylla added an RBI since in the fourth, making the score 12-2 before the Cardinals scored two in the bottom of the fourth.

Another seven run inning slammed the door shut on the Cardinals. Cowen, Lydia Evans and Adison Pronschinske all had RBI hits in the inning.

The Indees had 13 hits in the game as Adison Pronschinske had three while Aubrie Pronschinske, Maggie Woychik, Cowen and Sylla all had two. Aubrie Pronschinske, Evans, Klopp and Woychik all had two RBIs.

Evans was the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game with two strikeouts while she allowed eight hits and four walks.
