A new committee of city council and community members in Independence will plan for the next set of signs that will greet visitors to the municipality.
The Independence city council last Monday unanimously approved creating the committee, which will look to repair the current signs that suffer from fading, lighting issues and visibility problems.
The current signs are 20 years old, Mayor Robert Baecker said at Monday’s meeting, adding that replacements could be spread across multiple years to be fiscally responsible.
“I think we should make a committee and see what they come up with. If they have any plans, like we said if we can only afford one a year we can do one a year, but we should have them updated,” Baecker said.
