La Crosse man dies in motorcycle crash

For the second time in a little more than a month, a man has died in the town of Hale after the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer.

Michael Sanding, 55, of La Crosse died on Saturday after his motorcycle struck a deer. Sanding was driving south on County Road E near Holmen Road before hitting the deer, losing control and going into the ditch. He was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced dead on the scene. The crash was reported at 2:43 p.m. that day.

That was the second fatal motorcycle crash involving a deer in that township this summer. The first happened on County Road O when Gary Heath, 74, of Hale, struck a deer on June 1.

Sanding’s crash remained under investigation as of Monday of this week.
