Losses to Westby, Elk Mound put Raider boys at 0-3

The Arcadia High School boys basketball team dropped a pair of games last week to fall to 0-3 this season.

The Raiders took a big lead early against Westby last week Monday, but the Norsemen finished the first half with a run and then pulled away late. On Thursday, Elk Mound took a big lead and never looked back for a 79-53 win. Both were home games for the Raiders.  

The Raiders play at Viroqua on Friday and will host Tomah next Thursday.

Westby 63 Arcadia 54

With about four minutes remaining in the first half of a Coulee Conference game Monday, the Arcadia High School boys basketball team was off to a near perfect start.

A three-pointer from senior Kaden Updike put the Raiders in control of the game and gave the home team a 22-10 lead, but Westby scored eight straight points to close the first half.

The troubles continued in the second half for Arcadia, as multiple turnovers gave Westby three separate three-pointers before they took the lead 29-28 on a layup.

The teams traded points the rest of the way, but Arcadia had a chance to sneak back into the game late. Westby led by six with two minutes left in the game before a three-pointer from Westby’s Hudson Lipski put the game away.

Lipski scored a game-high 20 points and shot six-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Raiders got 16 from senior Trev Bjorge, and teammate Richard Gomez added 13. The pair also co-led the team with six rebounds.

Elk Mound 79 Arcadia 53

Visiting Elk Mound used a 49-point first half to breeze by the Raiders last Thursday.

The Mounders made four early three pointers as they built up a 19-6 lead and the Raiders were never able to recover. 

Bjorge led Arcadia with 14 points while Updike scored 11 and Gomez finished with nine. Egan Pauly, Kaiden Rotering and Cam Boland all scored four, Devon Baier and Kevin Cruz finished with three, while Vince Braun scored one.
