An Arcadia man was arrested after hitting a Wisconsin State Trooper with his vehicle and leading police on a high-speed chase last Tuesday.
Michael Peterson, 47, was taken into custody after crashing his vehicle into a power pole in Centerville at the end of a 15-mile chase, according to a press release issued by the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office.
A city of Arcadia officer and a State Patrol Trooper responded to an incident at the intersection of Blaschko Ave. and Sobotta Street in Arcadia at about 5 p.m. on Jan. 28. They were requested to check on an individual who was yelling at people in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Peterson located inside of a vehicle and he refused to comply with officers.
Peterson then fled the scene, striking the trooper with his vehicle. A pursuit was initiated southbound on State Highway 93 for about 15 miles, at times reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph. Peterson reached Centerville before striking the poll. The release said Peterson was taken into custody for recklessly endangering safety, battery to a law enforcement officer, and fleeing officers.
Peterson was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the release said. The trooper transported himself to a hospital after also suffering minor injuries.
Assisting on the scene were the sheriff’s department, Wisconsin State Patrol, the Galesville and Trempealeau police departments, Trempealeau First Responders, and the Trempealeau Fire Department.
