Man killed, teens injured in crash

One man was killed and two teenagers were injured in a crash that closed State Road 95 at the U.S. Highway 53 intersection at approximately 7 p.m. last Thursday.

Ernest Berg, 68, of Blair was killed after being ejected from his Chevrolet Tahoe and being pinned under the vehicle, according to a report from the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department. Berg was transported to Tri-County Memorial Hospital, but died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Berg’s vehicle was struck while turning left onto State Road 95 into the path of a southbound Chevrolet C1500, driven by Micah Nehring, 17, of Whitehall with an unnamed 14-year-old, also from Whitehall, as his passenger. Both Nehring and his passenger were also transported to Tri-County Memorial with minor injuries.

Highway 53 and State Road 95 were both closed for more than an hour during the initial investigation. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Blair Police Department, Whitehall Police Department, Arcadia Police Department, Blair-Preston Fire Department, Whitehall Fire Department, Arcadia-Glencoe Fire Department, Tri-County Ambulance and Gundersen Air.
