Murphy rounds out career at sectional tournament

Alexis Murphy played her final round as a member of the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School girls golf team
last week, and she started it with one of the best putts of the day.
Murphy was one of 54 golfers at last Monday’s Division Two sectional tournament played at the par-71
Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course and was competing for an individual spot at the 2023 state championship.
The G-E-T senior finished in the top half of golfers on Monday, tying for 27th with her 25-over-par 96.
After starting her day with a bogey on hole one, Murphy responded in a big way on hole two. Murphy blasted
a perfect tee shot on the 131-yard second hole and sank a 15-foot putt for a birdie on the par three.
Murphy was the only player in the 54-player field to record better than par on the hole.
Murphy shot a 50 on the front nine and followed the effort with a 47 on the back nine. Other highlighted holes
for the senior included a par on hole 14, a 111-yard par three.
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau coach Maddie Schmidt could not be reached for comment.
Lancaster and Jefferson claimed the two team berths for the Division Two state tournament with the top two
spots at Monday’s sectional and were set to compete in the state championship this Monday and Tuesday.
Brianna Kirsch of Lancaster and Payton Schmidt of Jefferson recorded matching 79’s to lead all golfers and
help their squads earn the team qualifications this week.
Emma Dobbins, a junior for Aquinas, took the top individual qualifier with her 9-over-par 80. Other individual
qualifiers included Jacklyn Thao of Edgewood Sacred Heart (82) and The Prairie School senior Kadyn Peery
(85).
