New COVID case count dips again

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services last week reported another significant drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases.

The DHS reported 79 new cases last week, the fewest since the last week in November when75 were reported. It marks just the third time since the start of September that there have been fewer than 85 cases reported in a week. 

Of the new cases, the DHS reported 25 were residents of the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District. The rest of the cases were spread throughout the county with 15 reported amongst residents of the Eleva-Strum district, 12 in Osseo-Fairchild; 11 in Blair-Taylor and Whitehall, 10 in Independence and five in Arcadia.

Two weeks ago, the Trempealeau County Health Department announced it would be ending the free COVID-19 vaccination clinics that have been offered at school buildings since September.

The remaining clinics are:

• Eleva-Strum School District, March 1, 1 to 7 p.m.

• Independence School District, March 2, 1 to 7 p.m.

• Blair-Taylor School District, March 8, 2 to 7 p.m.

• G-E-T Middle School, Feb. 16 and March 9, 2 to 6 p.m.

• Wanek Center, Arcadia, Feb. 22 and March 15, 1 to 7 p.m.

• Whitehall School District, Feb. 23 and March 16, 3 to 7 p.m.
