New welcome signs could greet Galesville visitors next year

New municipal signs could greet visitors to Galesville as soon as next year.

A design was presented to the Galesville city council last Thursday for three new signs that will be hosted on top of cement slabs.

The signs will not go in before this winter, Mayor Vince Howe said.

The signs will be simple, scribed with ‘Galesville’ and charges will be paid three ways between the city, Lions Club and chamber of commerce.

Total costs for the signs will be $44,845 — when split between the three groups each will pay just under $15,000.

There was some consideration to adding a date for when the city was established or other add-ons, but that would be in smaller print that is harder to read on a road sign, they decided.

“In the end the committee as a whole decided this was the best way,” city council member Jean Wallner said.

No action was taken on the signs, and the money from the city will be planned for in upcoming budget discussions for 2024.
