Polish dinner to raise funds for park equipment

As always, the Rainbow Community Club is looking to help.

This time, the RCC’s goal is to make Independence’s City Hall Park more accessible and enjoyable for children of all abilities. The club has planned several fundraisers, including a Polish dinner held at the Independence School District building on March 13.

Starting at 11 a.m., dinner will cost $12 for adults and $6 for children age seven or younger. It includes kluski (potato dumplings with butter and fried onions), two pieces of kielbasa (polish sausage), sauerkraut, homemade bread, kolache (donut-like dessert with different types of fillings), coffee or water.

Dinner will have Polish music, decorations and an exhibit of Polish artifacts and items of interest

Food will be served until it is gone, take-outs will be available —watch for signs.

Plans for the park include implementing several musical playground equipment as well as mats to help make the park more accessible for those with mobility needs. The club received a $10,000 donation from Ashley for the Arts for the project, but with rising costs will need to continue to raise funds in order to complete the project.

Other fundraisers include “Round Up your Dollar” programs at Randy’s grocery stores in Whitehall, April 4-17 and Arcadia, April 15-24. A lunch will be served at the April 5 election at Independence city hall and those wishing to donate can adopt a musical playground item.
