Red Hawk baseball team evens record with win over Panthers

A pair of wins last week has the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School baseball team back to even on the year after starting the season 1-3.

The Red Hawks scored in the final inning to eke past West Salem on Tuesday. A game against Tomah was canceled on Friday due to rain.

Aquinas was set to host G-E-T this Monday before the Red Hawks went to Sparta on Tuesday. They are scheduled to close the week with a doubleheader against Viroqua at home on Thursday.

G-E-T 3 West Salem 2

After giving up a 1-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Red Hawks needed an answer or were in danger of needing extra innings to win their second game in as many days on Tuesday.

Owen Eddy scored the game-winning run in style, stealing home plate on a wild pitch with two outs against G-E-T. They shut the Panthers down with three outs in three batters in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

West Salem led 1-0 through three innings after scoring on a sacrifice fly, but Ethan Stoner got the Red Hawks on the board in the top of the fourth by scoring on a wild pitch. A walk with the bases loaded in the next inning brought in Brenden Brady to give G-E-T the lead.

The Red Hawks finished with five hits in the effort.

Thomas Haney pitched five innings, throwing one strikeout and three walks to six hits for the Panthers. Beedle closed the game for G-E-T, allowing zero hits, walking none and adding a strikeout.
