Schmitz scores 56 in G-E-T win
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School sophomore Cody Schmitz did it again, going off for 56 points as the Red Hawks scored an overtime win over Viroqua last week.
Schmitz now has the two highest-scoring games in the state this season and leads the state with an average of 33.6 points per game. G-E-T has won three of its last four contests to work its way out of a five-game losing streak that kicked off the month. The Red Hawks (7-7 overall, 2-3 Coulee Conference) made the most of last week behind a pair of big performances from Cody Schmitz, beating Whitehall on Monday before taking care of Viroqua in an overtime win on Thursday.
Altoona was set to host G-E-T on Tuesday before the Red Hawks travel to Westby on Thursday. Rushford-Peterson visits G-E-T on Saturday.

Schmitz scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to record a double-double in Monday’s win over visiting Whitehall.
The Red Hawks collected 36 rebounds in the win and held a 35-17 lead at halftime.
Junior Will Mack and freshman Jackson Burns each scored 12 points for G-E-T.

Schmitz scored 10 of G-E-T’s 13 points in overtime as he finished with 56 in the game, the second-highest mark scored by any player in the state this season with only the 61 he scored in the opener topping it.
All 10 of the sophomore guard’s overtime points came from the free-throw line. He finished 22-of-27 from the line and made 14 shots from the field.
Viroqua (6-6, 2-4) trailed by six at halftime before turning the game around in the second half.
