As spread steadies, county resident dies from COVID

While the number of new COVID-19 cases has remained steady, another Trempealeau County resident died from the disease last week.

The death, reported by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. was the 41st in the county since the first case hit in April, 2020. The county’s case fatality percentage of 1.2 percent is slightly higher than the state rate of 1.1.

The DHS reported 18 new COVID-19 cases in the county last week, one more than the previous week. The percentage of people who received positive results decreased from 15.7 percent two weeks ago to 12.8 percent last week. Half of the new cases came from the southern part of the county as Galesville had five and Trempealeau four. Arcadia had three new cases, but no other municipality had more than two.

 Nearly 1,300 county residents received vaccinations last week, bringing the total number of county residents to received at least one dose of the vaccination to 13,592. Of those, 11,517 have completed the vaccination series — meaning 38.8 percent of county residents are fully vaccinated.
