Volunteers can now sign up for Arcadia Habitat project

A sign-up process is now available for volunteers who would like to plan events, raise donations and help with actual construction of a Habitat for Humanity home in Arcadia.

At least four applicants are being considered to be owners of the house to be built at  1109 E. Wilson Ave., while two others may qualify once they provide additional information, said Kahya Fox, executive director of Habitat for Humanity in La Crosse. The qualifying family could be selected by the end of February, Fox said.

“For the first time Habitat is building here,” Fox said Monday, having potentially six applicant “is pretty impressive.” The Arcadia house is the first the organization is building in Trempealeau County.

Volunteers for the project may sign up at www.habitatlacrosse.org/1109-e-wilson-ave-arcadia.html.  There, volunteers can sign up to donate time, money or business support and to organize group work days.

Fox said the project, which is expected to break ground when weather permits this spring, has also drawn the attention of the Habitat volunteer groups, the Caravanners and Bike and Build. The Caravanners are a group of individuals who travel the country working on Habitat homes. The Bike and Build group includes 18- to early-20-year-olds who bicycle across the country helping with the homes.
