Whitehall baseball team wins two of three

The Whitehall baseball team won its first two games last week before ending it with a loss to Eleva-Strum.

The Norse scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with a 7-6 win over Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday. The team blasted Alma/Pepin, 10-0, on Thursday, then lost to Eleva-Strum, 8-4, on Friday. 

Whitehall began this week with a 7-5 record. The team played at Melrose-Mindoro on Monday and at home against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Norse will host Augusta before welcoming Melrose-Mindoro next Monday and Eleva-Strum next Tuesday. 

Whitehall 7 AC Lincoln 6

Grayson Pronschinske hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Whitehall.

Whitehall was ahead for most of the game, but AC Lincoln scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. The Norse responded with two in the bottom half of the inning for the walk-off win.

Pronschinske had two hits and three RBIs for Whitehall. Will Youngbauer and Kade Foss both had one hit and one RBI. 

Whitehall scored one run in the first inning and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Hornets scored three in the fourth, but Whitehall got one back in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead into the final frame. 

Deacon Steig and Jake Sartor split the pitching duties with Steig throwing the first four innings and Sartor the final three. They combined to strike out four batters while allowing 10 hits and four walks.

The Norse took a big lead early and won by the mercy rule in six innings.

Whitehall scored five runs in the first inning as Youngbauer had an RBI single and Sartor drove in two runs with a double. Sartor added an RBI single in the second as Whitehall went ahead 6-0 and he had an RBI groundout as part of a two-run fourth inning. 

Riley Herman and Steig had consecutive run-scoring hits in the sixth to end the game, 10-0.

Sartor was 2 for 3 as he drove in four runs. Youngbauer and Steig also had two hits.

Youngbauer was the winning pitcher as he threw the first three innings before being replaced by Brett Schorbahn. The two combined to allow six hits while striking out four and walking two.

E-S 8 Whitehall 4

The Norse fell behind early and couldn’t catch up after a big second inning for the Cardinals.

E-S took the lead with two runs in the first inning, then added five in the second.

Whitehall didn’t get on the board until the third when Foss and Schorbahn had RBIs in a two-run inning. Steig added a two-run single in the fifth, but that was as close as Whitehall would get. 

Pronschinske got the start and took the loss, pitching the first two innings before being relieved by Sartor. The two combined to allow 10 hits and three walks while striking out two.

Foss and Steig both had two hits for Whitehall.
