Woman charged with child abuse

An Arcadia woman was charged with a felony after she allegedly hit a child who tried to intervene when the woman and her boyfriend reportedly quarreled about his relationship status on Facebook.

Jessica Pierce, 34, of 915 E. Main St., Arcadia, was charged with felony child abuse, intentionally causing harm and misdemeanor counts of battery, resisting or obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.

Pierce is alleged to have entered a van belonging to her boyfriend following an argument between the two Feb. 18 that he had made his Facebook status “single,” according to the criminal complaint. When the child tried to encourage Pierce to get out of the van, the woman and child fought before Pierce pushed the child into a snow bank and hit the child several times, court records say.

According to police, the man videoed the incident. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 10.
