Activities set for Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Trempealeau County Department of Human Services is incorporating local schools to help raise awareness for National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.
The activities have already gotten underway as fifth-grade students from Arcadia Middle School won a t-shirt design contest. The t-shirts were available for members of the public to purchase with proceeds going toward Trempealeau County families needing basic supplied. Due to difficult circumstances, the funds will help provide families with necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.
The human services department is also selling yard signs that will help provide needed supplies for those families. Signs can be purchased at the Trempealeau County Government Center.
Currently, a competition is underway for students from kindergarten-through-second grade in which they decorate a piece of paper and create a pinwheel from it. Students will create a display with the pinwheels and send a picture to the human services department, which will post the displays on its Facebook page. The public will then vote on which display is the best.
Annually, human services board member Jeanne Nutter has read the Child Abuse Month Proclamation. That is typically open to the public, however, due the COVID-19 pandemic, it will only be available to be viewed on WTCO Channel 8 18/618, airing live on April 2.
Throughout the rest of March and into April, the human services department will continue to discuss more ways to allow the county’s children and public to be involved.
