Arcadia Habitat home project breaks ground

Habitat for Humanity broke ground in Arcadia last Thursday in preparation for a home to be built for a woman and her five children.
The home will be constructed at 1109 E. Wilson St. using Arcadia contributions, volunteers and habitat of La Crosse resources. The Arcadia house is the first to be built by habitat in Trempealeau County. “Marcelina (Jose) loves living in Arcadia,” said Kayla Fox, executive director for Habitat in La Crosse. “She has a steady job, and she works hard. She has an amazing group of friends. She is now in a place to be financially comfortable owning a home. She jumped at the chance when she heard Habitat was looking for a homeowner for their first home in Arcadia.”
The home is expected to be completed in time for occupancy in late summer.
Jose and her family will devote 350 hours to working on the home. She will pay the market value for the house with a zero-percent loan from Habitat, property taxes and homeowners’ insurance.
