Indee girls struggle to score in two losses
The Independence girls basketball team had a hard time putting the ball in the basket in a pair of losses last week.
The Indees stuck with Cashton for a half, but they managed just 12 points in the second half as the Eagles flew away for a 43-27 win. It was the first half that was troublesome against another team with an Eagle as a mascot as the Indees managed just 10 points in the first half of a 47-32 loss at home against Alma/Pepin.
The losses put the Indees at 2-5 on the season — 1-2 in Dairyland Conference play — before a non-conference game against Greenwood on Monday of this week. The Indees are slated to host Arcadia on Tuesday before welcoming Gilmanton on Thursday. This coming Tuesday, they’re set to play at Alma Center Lincoln.

Independence’s defense held up in the first half to keep the team within striking distance, but offensive issues caught up to the team in the second half.
The Indees trailed 17-15 at halftime of the game, but the Eagles finally broke through in the second half as they put the game away.
Independence shot roughly 29 percent from the field as Ahnna Bautch led the team with six points.

The Indees managed just 10 points in the first half and couldn’t catch up in the second.
Independence trailed 22-10 at the intermission. While their offense got going in the second half, the Eagles were able to match them and maintain control of the game.
The Indees shot 32.6 percent from the field, not far off of A/P’s 33.3 percent, but the Eagles had 11 more field goal attempts thanks largely to their 16 offensive rebounds.
Ives led Independence with 19 points while Scow and Theisen both scored four, Kniseley chipped in with three and Bautch scored two.
