Wildcats hold on to early lead in win over Mustangs

The Blair-Taylor girls basketball team got off to a fast start and was able to cruise to a nearly 30-point win last week Tuesday.
B-T went ahead by double digits early in the game and continued to add to the lead throughout as they beat Melrose-Mindoro 65-37 in a home Dairyland Conference game.
The Wildcats began this week with an 8-0 record before playing at Cashton on Thursday.
B-T senior Lindsay Steien is closing on the county scoring record. Steien has 1,929 career points, recently moving past Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau graduate Lexi Wagner (1,914) to become the all-time scoring leader in the history of girls basketball in Trempealeau County. She is 56 points shy of her father Eric Steien’s county record for boys and girls basketball.
After this week, B-T’s next game will be a big one as they host Bangor next week Saturday. The Cardinals were the only team to beat the Wildcats last year, doing so twice, including in the sectional semifinal round.

Senior Abby Thompson got off to a fast start as the Wildcats took a big lead early.
Thompson scored 11 points in the first nine minutes of the game as her team took a 19-7 lead. The B-T senior scored five more points at the end of the first half while Steien and Kierstyn Kindschy both scored six points in the half as the team took a 35-12 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs actually kept pace early in the second half as B-T struggled with turnovers. After an early time out, the Wildcats began playing up to their standard again as they put the game away.
Thompson scored a season-high 26 points while Steien and Kindschy both scored 12. Lexi Lofgren added seven, Samantha Kidd scored six.
