Indees stung by Hornets in DC play

The Independence girls basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t keep up with one of the top teams in the Dairyland Conference on the road last week Tuesday.

The Hornets (7-1 on the season, 5-0 in DC play) put up 35 points in the first half to take a 20-point lead into halftime. They didn’t let up in the second half as they went on to win 61-31.

The loss put the Indees at 3-7 overall and 1-3 in Dairyland Conference play; they’re one of three teams with one conference win in the DC-Small Division. 

Independence returns to action on Tuesday of this week when they play at Plum/City Elmwood before heading to Whitehall on Thursday.

The Hornets shot 50 percent from the field as they were able to get a number of easy baskets off of steals.

ACL forced 26 Independence turnovers which led directly to 26 points. The Hornets also made 10 of 17 three pointers in the game. They took a 35-15 lead into halftime and never looked back.

The Indees shot 36.7 percent from the field, but couldn’t keep up with the Hornets. 

Amiah Ives led Independence with nine points while both Ahnna Bautch and Mikiyah Scow scored seven, Rhianna Theisen had five and Adison Pronschinske chipped in with three.
