Indees win two, Norse one at EC Holiday duals

The Independence/Gilmanton and Whitehall wrestling teams ran into some stiff competition at the Eau Claire Holiday Duals last Thursday.

The Indees won two of their duals at the tournament and the Norse picked up one win. I/G finished 10th in the team standings and Whitehall was 14th. 

The Indees defeated Mondovi 53-21 in the pool round. That came after losses of 63-18 to Plainview-Elgin-Millville and 77-6 to Simley. In the consolation bracket, the Indees defeated Eau Claire North 48-33 but fell to Superior, 51-30.

Gavin Bragger was the only I/G wrestler to get a win against Simley as he went 4-1 in the tournament. Drew Bragger and Jacobo Medina were also 4-1 in the tournament. Both Braggers had four pins, Medina had two pins and received two forfeits. Owen Gierok won three matches in the tournament.

Whitehall lost all three matches in pool play, losing to Kenyon-Wanamingo, 82-0; Maple Grove, 58-9 and Eau Claire North, 51-24. The Norse defeated Mondovi 45-30 in its bracket before falling to Mahtomedi, 48-30.

Eric Kleinhans picked up three pins as he went 3-2 in the tournament. Matthew Poulos, Nolan Thompson and Markus Peterson also won three matches. Two of Poulos’ wins came by pin.

Simley won the tournament, defeating Cambridge-Isanti, 59-13 to take the team title.
