Win over Bangor keeps Wildcats undefeated

The Blair-Taylor girls basketball team went on a run early in the second half to take control of a game they likely had circled on their calendars.

While Bangor graduated some of the players from its 26-3 squad that defeated B-T twice last season – the only two losses B-T suffered – the Cardinals were still 9-2 on the season and posed a big threat to hand the Wildcats their first loss. However, B-T got off to a fast start offensively on Saturday then put the clamps down in the second half to come away with a 47-41 win.

That win put B-T at 10-0 on the season (5-0 in Dairyland Conference play) before Tuesday’s home game against Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran. They’ll head to Gilmanton on Friday and host Brookwood for a Saturday game. This coming Tuesday, the Wildcats play at Augusta before welcoming the DC-Small Division leaders, Alma Center Lincoln, next Thursday.

An 11-4 run to start the second half put the Wildcats in control. 

B-T had a three-point lead at halftime before Lindsay Steien scored four baskets early in the second half and Sydney Fremstad added three points to put the Wildcats lead at 39-29 with a quarter of the game remaining.

The Wildcats continued to stifle the Cardinals for the next few minutes before a couple three pointers helped make the final score closer.

Abby Thompson got off to a fast start for B-T scoring 10 points early in the first half as the Wildcats led 19-16. She made three shots from beyond the arc in the first half and finished with 15 points in the game.

Steien led the way with 20 points while Fremstad and Andrea Waldera both scored four and Lexi Lofgren and Kierstyn Kindschy finished with two apiece.
