Wildcat wrestlers second at Kickapoo tournament
With four tournament champions, the Blair-Taylor wrestling team took second at the Lee Griffin Invitational at Kickapoo on Saturday.
The Wildcats got first-place finishes from Ryan Flynn (138), Jackson Shramek (182), Bryan Rogstad (195) and Dylan Elvaker (220) to finish second in the team standings despite having just 10 wrestlers. Iowa-Grant/Highland won the 13-team tournament with 114 points, just ahead of B-T’s 109, while Kickapoo-La Farge took third with 105.
Flynn escaped his first two matches with wins of 11-4 and 6-4 before pinning Quin Miller of K/L in the championship match.
Shramek pinned his first two opponents before winning the title with a 5-0 victory over Kolten Stibbe of Richland Center.
Rogstad came away with three pins, including one in 2:43 over Ty Nottestad of Westby to claim the individual title.
Elvaker pinned his first opponent before advancing to the championship with a major decision. The final match was close, but the B-T wrestler snuck out a 10-9 win over Ericris Tirado-Lopez of Cashton.
Gunar Koxlien (152) placed fourth for B-T, winning one match while Easton Rogstad (126) was fifth without a win.
Billy Miller (132) won one match, but did not place. Colton Koxlien also won a match, but didn’t place. Juan Lopez (138) and Ben Lien (160) also did not place for the Wildcats.
B-T is scheduled to wrestle at Ithaca on Saturday.
