Arcadia woman charged with identification theft

Arcadia police arrested a woman for identity theft for using documents she allegedly secured in Minnesota and that could be related to a theft in Texas in 1998.

Maricruz Barrios Hernandez, 35, of 1745 Saddle Drive, Number 32, Arcadia, was charged with a felony count of misappropriating identification information to gain money after she was found working at Pilgrim’s Pride in Arcadia, court records show. She posted $1,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Arcadia police were tipped off about the woman’s employment by an individual who received Pilgrims pay stubs among multiple other documents since someone began using her identity in 2015, according to the criminal complaint.

Hernandez told police she received documents identifying her as the other woman from a friend in Minnesota about four years ago.  The complainant said she believes the identity theft dates back to 1998 when her mother’s purse, social security number and a birth certificate were stolen in McAllen, Texas.
