Man charged in bar hit and run

A man accused of driving his vehicle into a car outside an Independence bar and then returning, allegedly hitting one man and threatening bar patrons, is being held in jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bond.

Eulises Campos Villegas, 31, of 35396 6th St., Independence, has been charged with felony first degree reckless endangering and misdemeanor counts of battery, disorderly conduct and causing injury while operating under the influence.

Villegas is accused of driving his vehicle into a parked car outside the bar, according to the report of deputies who arrived at the scene just before 2 a.m. Sept. 16. One of the bar patrons went out to look at the car when Villegas allegedly returned to the scene, court records say.

The patron reportedly told deputies it appeared Villegas was aiming his car at him, according to deputies’ account. The patron said he jumped on the hood of a car but was still struck and hit Villegas’s vehicle’s windshield, according to court records. 

Other bar patrons say it then appeared Villegas was aiming his vehicle at them, the criminal complaint says.

A preliminary hearing for Villegas is scheduled for Oct. 10.
