Haines named to Arcadia council
Brook Haines now represents Arcadia’s Second Ward, succeeding the late Dan Sonsalla.
Haines’s nomination by Mayor Kevin Mayzek was approved by the council last Tuesday at a special meeting. Haines, the supervisor of waste water for Pilgrims, was also named to the city planning commission.
Haines succeeds Sonsalla who was killed in a motorcycle accident Aug. 19.
The council also approved Arcadia operations supervisor Rollie Conrad to spend up to $120,000 for a used garbage truck. Conrad told the council the city needs to replace a 2003 truck that is “getting weak.” He noted that a new garage truck can cost as much as $200,000.
The council also approved adding a part-time employee to Conrad’s department and beginning the search for a full-time employee who is expected to leave by the end of the year.
