Titan wrestlers sweep dual, take second at weekend tourney

There was bountiful wrestling action for the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro Titans co-op last week.

The Titans started last week by sweeping a Coulee Conference triangular on Thursday against Viroqua and Black River Falls and ended with a second-place finish at a tournament in Richland Center on Saturday.

There is little time to relax for the Titans ahead of this holiday season—a quad at Cadott is on the slate for this Thursday.

The Titans lost only one weight class (165 pounds) against Black River Falls and conceded two against Viroqua (138, 165) in last Thursday’s conference triangular.

Multiple G/M wrestlers registered two wins on Thursday as the Titans seek to repeat as Coulee Conference champions.

After recording 10 pins against the Tigers, the Titans had six against the Blackhawks.

RC Invitational

Only one opponent did enough to outscore the Titans in Saturday’s tournament at Richland Center, which boasted a field of 19 teams.

Colton Koss found success often last weekend as he worked his way to an individual title at 106 pounds to lead G/M, which saw eight different wrestlers finish inside the top four in their weight classes.

Koss pinned all three of his opponents, taking down Ithaca/Weston’s Kerrick Thompson in 1 minute, 16 seconds in his quarterfinal before pinning Aiden Silvers of Iowa-Grant/Highland in 33 seconds and overpowering Baraboo’s Demean Severson in 1:12 in the championship match.

Koda Purney (113), Aaron Dunigan (190) and Gunnar Johnson (157) each wrestled to second-place weekends by winning their first two matches on Saturday, and Jackson Blaken was the Titans’ lone third-place wrestler at 144 pounds.

Braydon Lockington (215), Jayce Stetzer (132) and Landon Windsor (150) all finished fourth in their respective weight classes for the Titans, which also got sixth-place days from Brody Banse (120) and Gunnar Kremer (126).

Hunter Lefler (180), Tyden Mikkelson (138) and Braden Peterson (175) finished eighth.
